Hello! I’m Abbie, an avid bookworm from a little corner of the North East of England. Since I was little, I’ve always found solace in books. I nurtured that love of reading all the way up until university, where I promptly abandoned reading for pleasure, threw myself into my academic work for two years, and experienced a terrible burnout.
After deciding that the best thing to do for my mental health was to take a step back, I went home for a year before my final year of university. That was in 2015. That was also when I decided to turn back to my old paperback friends for comfort. My love for reading hadn’t gone away, it had simply been put on the backburner while I exhausted myself academically.
In February 2016, I switched my (never used) personal Instagram account to a bookstagram. Since then, I’ve made bookish friends all over the world, had the chance to work with publishers reviewing books, and even won an award for my bookstagram account (London Book Fair’s Bookstagrammer of the Year 2019).
I also managed to complete my undergraduate degree, undertake an MA in Translation, work at a Northern lifestyle magazine for a year, before finally taking the leap into freelance life in September 2019. I do a little bit of everything, from copywriting and proof-reading for businesses to writing articles and creating content for campaigns on Instagram.
Hopefully this site will help you discover some literary gems – I’m particularly keen to share with you exciting translated works from around the world.
